While launching the prescription legend in 1962, the late American President John F Kennedy made the following remarks. “The Pharmacist is an indispensable link in the chain of National Health Protection and Promotion. If we did not have the Pharmacists it would be necessary to invent him”

Professions exist to serve society, the task of the Pharmacy profession are set by the societies and customers we serve. When the need of those Pharmacists serves change, the profession has to change its behaviour as well.

For Pharmacists the change has been dramatic from product orientation to patient, customer and service orientation. Only recently the Europharm Development in Concepts Review, reminded Pharmacists to move from behind the counter and start serving the public by providing care instead of pills only. Continuing it revealed that “there is no future in the mere act of dispensing”. The fact that Pharmacists have an academic training and are Health Care Professionals puts a burden upon them to better serve the community than they currently do.

My pleasure it is to welcome one and every visitor to our website. The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) is being restructured to be in the best of position to

• Protect the Rights of Pharmacists and Patients.  

• Care about Nigerians social and Health problem

• Work cooperatively with other Health Providers as a measure of our belief in the team concept in Health Care Provision.

• Engage in activities that will promote and improve local capacity in drug manufacture and production.

• Improve education and training of Pharmacist at all levels to improve their skills and competence at all times.

The opportunity offered by this website as a tool to achieve the above objectives are enormous, the PSN is always willing to partner with both local and international organizations involved in provision of Health Care to meet the goals we set for the practice of Pharmacy.

I like to end this short introduction to our website with the realities of the East African plains.
